Huizhou City, also known as Goose City, is a prefecture-level city under the administration of Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China. It is classified as a Type II large city and designated by the State Council as one of the central cities in the Pearl River Delta region. Huizhou features a subtropical monsoon climate with abundant sunshine year-round and distinct dry and wet seasons. Its geological structure is dominated by northeast-trending fault zones, with topography primarily consisting of low-to-medium mountains and rolling hills. The ancient state of Bolou, emerging as early as the pre-Qin period, encompassed territories spanning present-day Huizhou, Dongguan, and Shenzhen, with its core located in today's Boluo County, Huizhou. In 214 BC, Fuluo County was established. After Emperor Wu of Han subdued the Nanyue Kingdom, it was renamed Boluo County. During the Yuan Dynasty, the province-road administrative system was implemented, with Ming and Qing dynasties continuing this structure. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, Huizhou became the base for the Dongjiang Column, a major force in the South China anti-Japanese war. As a nationally designated historical and cultural city, Huizhou has long served as the political, economic, and cultural hub of the Dongjiang River basin. The Dongjiang civilization that flourished here constitutes a vital component of Lingnan civilization. Huizhou stands as a major settlement and distribution center for the Hakka people, ranking first among the Four Hakka States and earning the title “Hakka Overseas Chinese Capital.” The Huizhou Zhongkai High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, established in 1992, ranks among the nation's first 56 state-level development zones.
